Fabric Fun...

I've long admired fabric art journal covers.  The change in texture you get from adding fabric.  Eas to add pattern, depending on the fabric you choose.  The frayed edges as if the fabric was torn instead of cut.  It's just lovely and I've always wanted to try it.  So finally, I did.

This is a mini journal I made a few years ago for a monthly challenge.  I don't have thick fabrics, but I have several patterns.  This pattern has a retro vibe with tic-tac-toe symbols.  I rough cut a piece that was bigger then the journal cover itself.  Then I used my Cutterbee scissors to snip all the sides one at a time and ripped the strips off, creating a frayed edge.

The fabric goes over the edge of the paper, which I think adds to the charm.  You can see some paint splotches from the paper I used.  I think it looks lovely, and to touch and feel the fabric, it's really so cool.

You can use any fabric you want, though I would suggest a heavier fabric.  It could be harder to rip it, but worth the look and feel, for sure!

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow WIPI found a work in progress

I found a work in progress tag!  I love when I do that.  Play a whole bunch and then it's gets buried to be found later.  A new year's treasure hunt!

This tag is actually quite stiff to the touch.  It's covered in gesso through a stencil with some great colors added over the background pattern once dry.  Then I added more gesso through another stencil, after which I added paint through the same stencil and then outlined the letters with my Sharpie.  I also added some touches of orange on the edges.  I don't love the orange on the edge because it looks more brown.  Almost like rust.  I don't mind the rusty look at times, but I'm not sure how I'm feeling about this one.  It's definitely not done, so still some more work to do.

Tea Time with a Dapper Octopus

I decided to turn this tag was quick and quirky.  The background I shared with you on a previous post.  I grabbed several items from my stash and then added some washi tape.

I turned a quick octopus I stamped into a dapper tea drinker.  I included some embroidery floss

Tag Magic - A First Layer

Do you ever have a craft supply that maybe you don't use as often, and then you rediscover it's potential?  I've got a lot of supplies, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, except sometimes I end up neglecting a supply.  When I find the supply again, I wonder about getting rid of it because I do have some supplies that I haven't used in a long time and don't plan to use.  That could have happened to the stencil I used on this tag.  Thankfully, I didn't upon seeing the first layer on this tag.

Sometimes I find myself at a loss with color combinations.  Sometimes they work, other times they really don't and I get annoyed at having to start over.  However I was very glad to se this tag with the color combination on it.  It's not a usual combination, but I think it works really well.

New Year, Time for a Refresh

Happy New Year!  How is yours going so far?  I know it's super early, and it can be resolution time.  I've notice everyone does something different.  Some do resolutions, some do intentions, still others make goals.  Which one are you?

I've done it a few different ways.  I know motivation is a big part of anything, regardless of the time of year.  And it can be overwhelming.  I've dealt with overwhelming.  It's a big challenge.  You can get stuck in your own head with circular thinking.  That's when you need to take a step back.  Not literally, but distract yourself.  Pull yourself out of that thinking , take a deep breath, listen to some music, or make some art.

The above tag is one found in a effort to take a deep breath and distract myself.  I was playing with a bunch of tags.  This one has a base of gesso, with some Dylusions color sprays spritzed through a stencil.  I don't know how the red bit came into being, but it's pretty cool.  It's a good base to work from.   And that's enough for me.
