Be Bold

Do you have a huge stash you have to bust and use more?  I've definitely got that and I've been trying hard to use items in my stash.  There's one product on this ATC that I had grabbed to use for another project and it didn't happen.  So I worked, and made other projects and finally found a great spot for it.  Which item am I talking about?

The white asterisk sticker, which I believe is from an American Crafts Thickers set.  My background is paint applied with a brayer and through stencils, with some polka dot tissue paper adhered with gel medium, as well as rub-ons, stamping, doodling, and a few items from my stash.

Hello

As you've seen I like using lots of supplies.  Sometimes things come together quickly, sometimes not.  This one was a bit of a challenge, and it's a bit different, but that's a good thing!  Less doodling in my usual ways, but sometimes a little different can be good.

The background has a bunch of layers.  Some paint, stenciling, stamping, then I added some die-cuts, doodling, and paint splatter.  I also broke in a new stamp, a big wood-backed rubber stamp of small dots; you can see it in the bottom left corner.

ATC 3 Star

Do you hoard supplies or half-finished projects, just waiting for the right finishing touches?  That was me with this.  I was trying so hard to find the right products to add to this ATC without covering up the background because I love it.

I think I solved my problem.  This ATC is one of several I prepped with a layer of gesso through a stencil.  Then I added some watered down paint to give a light background wash.  I was trying so hard to not cover up the color.  The red circles in the corner is red paint combined with texture paste and put through a TCW Punchinella stencil.  I added doodles, rub-ons, some stamping, a star pin, some thread, and Liquitex ink.

Noteworthy

So check out my newest ATC!  I added some paint because I wasn't a fan of the background.  Then I went to town with adding other details.

This ATC has chipboard, stamping, doodles, stenciling, a digi stamp, and maybe a little more

Courage to Go For It ATC

I had an idea to try something new with this ATC and I really like how it turned out.

I used a lot of different supplies with this ATC.  Stamping, rub-ons, acrylic paint, die-cuts, adhesive enamel shapes, paint markers.  Did I mention I used a lot?

Meh

So I did a thing, I created an ATC heh...I was experimenting and it took a little while with what I was doing.

I used washi tape to mask off the letters and then outlined the letters in white.  And that red bit in the top right corner?  I don't know if there's a name for it, but it's when you pull the dried paint from inside the cap of a paint bottle.  I had done a few layers before it got to this point, and I really like it.

Speak Up

It's kinda funny...I have lots of different kinds of adhesives.  I've got tapes, dots, foam squares in different sizes, fabric glue, tacky glue, as well as gel medium.  They all have their uses.  Art journaling, scrapbooking, mixed media.  And I find myself using at least a few in any project I'm working on.  But my current obsession has got to be gel medium.  Granted I have to brush it on, but it's great for working with so many different types of elements and dried pretty quickly so you can keep working.

Seriously, this stuff is amazing!  It works for tissue paper, book paper, magazine cut outs, mixing with paint for texture or using through stencils.  So well worth the price!

My previous ATC used tissue paper and I used The Crafter's Workshop Gel Medium to attach the tissue paper.  It worked great, both to adhere the paper and cover the edges so I could work on top without issue.  I used it again on this ATC with the same tissue paper, though it's hard to see.  There's a peek of it near the bottom by the words "SPEAK UP."  I also added some Craftsmart acrylic paint in Ocean Breeze; just swiping it on with my finger.  Plus some drips from Liquitex Carbon Black Liquid Ink.

The heart is cardstock I ran through my Cuttlebug in a Tim Holtz embossing folder.  I grabbed some lime green paint and my brayer, intending to add the paint to the raised image on the cardstock.  It picked up some of the OCean Breeze, so I added more then drew and cut out a heart.  I also stamped a Dylusions border stamp on the left.

I stamped the sentiments on cardstock and used a paint pen to fill in the larger letters.  And I used my Sharpie and paint pens to add the doodles and splatters.  My unicorn girl id a digi stamp from Oddball Art colored with colored pencils, as well as Tombow and Artist's Loft markers.

Sarcasm, Anyone?

How often have you had different pieces that you weren't sure how to put them together?  Did you freeze or did you work through it?  Did it work or maybe you're not sure.  That happened to me with this and my die-cuts.

I had this ATC that I had smeared gesso on through a stencil, then added color.  So I had a base of red and orange to work off of, but I still had to figure out how to add the die-cuts to my liking.  Thankfully it worked out well and I really like this ATC.

Stash Away

I'm trying to use things in my stash in a fun way.  I've got lots in my stash, and some of it I wasn't really sure how to use it.  Maybe not a huge problem for some, but it can get overwhelming to have so many supplies, especially when you like to use a lot of stuff.  Trying to put the items together can sometimes be a challenge.

This ATC has a patterned paper base.  It's called WhiteOut, and I think I found it at the craft store.  The basic premise is it's colorful, but subdued.  Every color looks like it was lightened, or white was added to it, hence the name.  Even the red is lighter, but not pink, which I also like.  I like many things, but pink is not one of them.

I added some red paint through a small Balzer Designs stencil, and added some blue later.  That's how I found the ATC in my stash.  I added cros-stitch floss, a remainder of a die-cut I had, as well as a few other die-cuts, a paper clip, and some sticky punchinella type paper that I swiped some turquoise paint over to add interest.

A Time to be Merry

The week between Christmas and New Year's can be a little strange.  Do you get that feeling?   It's still holiday time, but many of you are probably back to work.  Do you like it quiet during this time or do you prefer loud and lots to do?

I'm in a weird spot, though I don't mind the quiet.  Not as much rushing around and it can be a nice time to relax.  Not that I mind getting together with friends and family.  And parties in between can keep the winter blues away.

Are you looking for something to add some punch to your art?  I actually have two ideas: tags and frames.  I love using both in my artwork.  They're easy and have that something extra that can compliment your creation!

I found a forgotten piece of patterned paper that I played around with and cut it up into a bunch of ATCs.  This one has some scribbles from markers and pens, then I added some paint through some stencils.  I added a little die-cut frame, a tag I cut from that same patterned paper experiment, a funky star that I die-cut from a gelli print, a piece of washi tape, and a plastic star from my stash.

ATC Naughty List

I'm enjoying some holiday fun with my family, so I set up some posts ahead of time.  When it comes to the holidays, I love the Grinch.  Everyone has different feelings about the holidays, but I feel like the Grinch is a welcome friend.  It's a nice redemption story but also a fun way to be a little snarky and sarcastic during the holidays.  And I think at the very least, the Grinch started out on the Naughty List, especially when he's throwing his own kind of party for the holidays.

However, since I'm lacking Grinchness in my craft stash, I used an Octopode Factory digi stamp with a mini alphabet stamp set for the sentiment.

A forgotten piece of patterned paper got cut up into a bunch of ATCs.  This one has some old markings, that might be from actual markers.  There's also paint through some stencils.  I added a die-cut frame, my digi girl, and a funky star for a fun, and maybe little bit naughty, holiday party fun.  The star is from an old gelli print.

ATC Let It Snow

One thing that many people might say the holidays need is snow.  Or at the very least the winter season.  Others can do without snow.  I love the look of snow myself. There's something magical about it. The world is fresh and full of possibilities.

This ATC brings the magic of snow with some charm and a cuteness factor.

The background is from the long forgotten patterned paper project.  There was already the stamping and I added some yellow paint through a The Crafters Workshop  stencil.  I glued all my layers together after I stamped and cut out my polar bear.

So this is from a long forgotten project of mine.  I attached a couple different pieces of old Amy Tangerine patterned paper to cardstock, then played around a bit.  I discovered it recently and cut the 12x12 paper into a bunch of ATCs.  For this one I added some stamping and paint through a stencil in the background.  My stamping was done with Ranger Archival Ink and green dye ink.  I mixed mint and Titanium White and put it through a stencil.  I colored a wreath from Oddball Art with my Tombow and Artist's Loft markers and cut the frame with some patterned paper and a wonky frame die.  The letters are from my stash.

Deck the Halls

Hi friends! How's your weekend going?  It always goes by so quickly right?  That's what I find bittersweet about the weekends.  They're brief, but usually very enjoyable.

I also realized that I don't have a ton of art creations for the Christmas season.  So I'm hoping to change that.  And I'm doing pretty good so far.  In that vein, I have an ATC for Christmas that I gave a sneak peek of a day or two ago.

I'm also entering my tag into the following challenge:

I used an Octopode Factory girl in Christmas gear, and grabbed an ATC the play with.  I added a file label, some ribbon and red thread, letter stickers, a button and brad from my stash, along with a little bit of punchinella.  You could say I grabbed a bunch of my stash and round out this ATC.

Something else in the background that I did was an experiment.  I mixed Liquitex Gesso, Liquitex Bright Aqua Green, and Ranger Gel Medium and pushed the mixture through my Dylusions Trees stencil.

I also added a bright green paper clip as well.

ATCs may be small, but they are mighty!  Please let me know what you think in the comments!

One of Those Butterfly Days

Ever have one of those days?  You can't quite put your finger on it, maybe you can't put a name to it, but you just have this feeling.  Maybe it's an off day.  Maybe it's a good day where you forgot about everything for a little bit.  Maybe it's a day when something unexpected happened.  There's so many different aspects that can be covered.  And that's how life is at time.

I didn't love this ATC or the batch, and when you do batch work, that happens.  Even if you like the whole group or get a whole group done, one or two might not work out exactly how you like and you have to adjust them.

In this case, I grabbed some kraft paper that I had used as underpaper for previous projects and ripped a section that I glued to the ATC and trimmed off the excess to give a new background.  This background has spots of paint as well as ghost images from stamps and leftover gesso from cleaning a stencil.  I don't clean my stencils when I use paint with them.  So many of my stencils are a riot of color from being used often with different shades of paint over the years.  Gesso, however, is artist's primer, and like other mediums, like clear gel or texture paste, gets cleaned off stencils right away so the stencil can continue to be used.

In this case I used a white water-based Sharpie paint marker for most of the doodling.  I also used a Uni Posca Paint Marker in Emerald Green and a Molotow One4All Shock Blue paint marker.  And for some fun, I added a piece of washi tape and a couple heart stickers made into a butterfly.

Meh

Sometimes you just feel like you want to step back from everything.  I know I have that feeling at times.  To just take a break and not have to care about anything.  Or sometimes you're just having an off day.  We all have them.  Could be the weather, could be stress from life, could be just not wanting to worry about anything.

So I felt "Meh" summed up quite well the feeling.

There's quite a bit of doodling on this ATC, along with gelli prints.  I used a Uni Posca Paint Marker in Emerald Green and a white water-based Sharpie paint marker for most of the doodles.  I also used a blue watercolor crayon from a set I have to used around the circles cut from gelli prints, and outlining the details with a Sharpie pen.  I also used the pen and paint markers around the edges as well.

Grunge it Up!

I've gone through phases in my crafting.  I've played with vintage, color, industrial, mixed media, feels like a lot more.  I don't know if I can say grunge was ever a technique I loves, but I don't mind it in small doses or if it has some good color along with the grunge.  I also will say I have a sailor's mouth, so I don't shy away from cursing, including in my art supplies.

The 12 x 12 patterned paper that I flipped over and just went to town with mixed media I then cut into a bunch of ATCs to continue playing with.  I took one for a new challenge at Simon Says Stamp.

I did a lot with this ATC, before it was actually an ATC.  I had stamped a pattern stamp from Dylusions with my tinted Ranger Embossing ink pad and Ranger Clear Embossing powder.  Then I added some paint and some Dylusions ink spray in London Blue, Lime Green, and Postbox Red.  I also took a stencil from a Polish company that's now defunct called 3rd Eye.  The stencil is block letters in all caps, that says "Foolishness and Fuckery."  I used black gesso on the stencil, but didn't try to make a completely clear impression with the stencil.  I thought adding the black and keeping the stencil a little cloudy, so to speak, would add to the grunge factor in that area.

After I cut it into ATC size, I added some stamped images from Badass Art, also a Polish company.  The "Blah, Blah, Blah" was stamped onto a ghost gelli print and cut out.  The "wtf" is a digi image that I added a little color to with my Tombow markers.  I used an orange paint marker from Uni Posca to fill in some of the stars I stamped, some doodle markings with both my water-based white Sharpie paint marker and my Fude Ball pen.  I absolutely adore my Fude Ball pen.  It writes on just about any surface.  I also added some dot stickers from Fancy Pants and some paint spatters using the same white Sharpie paint marker.

I really hope you enjoyed my attempt at grunge with my ATC.  I think it came out really well and I think I managed to keep the color vibe while going grunge.
