What Attitude?

Anyone have a teenager in your life?  If so, then you can definitely relate to this tag, heh.  I think at some point in adolescence, everyone has to deal with a moody teenager.  Not that attitude is limited to teenagers, far from it!  So I wanted to pay a little homage to the sass we all can exhibit from time to time.

I covered a vintage tag in gesso and used my Dylusions sprays and my stencils to start a nice background.  Then I used more stencils and paint to add some more patterns.  I also smeared some watered down orange paint then added my other elements.  Inspired by my Dylusions border stamps, I doodled the border.  I grabbed some tissue paper from a package I had received and hand cut a star, and used The Crafter's Workshop Gel Medium to adhere the tissue paper star.  I stamped the word "ATTITUDE" with my alpha stamp and my Archival Black Ink, and colored an Oddball Art boy digi stamp with my Tombow markers.  I also adhered a couple Tim Holtz gears and colored some little chipboard alphas with my Uni Posca green paint pen and adhered them as well.  I threaded some yarn through the top and my tag was finished.

I'm also entering my tag in the following challenges:

I Really Like Gesso

I really liked a bunch of ATCs that I found with gesso smeared through stencils and then color added to them.  So I grabbed a bunch of blank tags and a bunch of stencils and went to town.

I've done this with paint, and I don't mind it, but depending on the thickness of the paint, it seep through.  Now that's not necessarily bad, but it's not always the look I'm going for.  So in this case I went back to my gesso, which is definitely thick enough to make a great impression but not seep through.  Above you'll find three of my tags.  From left to right, I used a chevron stencil from The Crafter's Workshop, a Dylusions circles stencil, and a raindrop stencil from Prima Marketing.

And yes, I purposely didn't cover the entirety of each tag.  It's more fun that way.

Head in the Clouds

Do you daydream?  Did you daydream as a child and slowly fall out of the habit as an adult?  I can understand that, for sure.  It can seem silly to daydream as an adult, but I don't think so.  I find I can daydream when listening to music, reading a book, or just relaxing.

This tag is about daydreaming, and the fun that can be had when you're off in the clouds.  I pushed gesso through a stencil, then diluted Artist's Loft Turquoise and Tim Holtz Ripe Persimmon paint with water and used paintbrushes to put a wash of both colors on the tag.  Then I used a brayer to put black paint on the gesso circles from the stencil.  After that it was a simply matter of adhering all the elements: punchinella, a die-cut star from Oddball Art, and two handdrawn clouds made from underpaper and gelli prints.  I added a few beads to the end of the string as well.  I finished with Sharpie pen doodle outlining and white paint splatters.

Layer Fun

Another tag that has the beginnings of some fun.  I just added different paint and stamp layers over top of each other, so you can see some of the first marks peeking through the top layers.  Like the circles under the yellow and turquoise paint that mixed to create some nice green.  Green can be a challenging color to use, at least for me.  I like the neon shades, but the regular shades can stop me in my tracks at times.

I also added some purple paint through a stencil.  It's funny because from a distance, the stamped images remind me of ink drips.  Once you get closer you realize it's stamped images, but it's like an unintentional illusion.  I love those types of accidents.

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow WIPI found a work in progress

I found a work in progress tag!  I love when I do that.  Play a whole bunch and then it's gets buried to be found later.  A new year's treasure hunt!

This tag is actually quite stiff to the touch.  It's covered in gesso through a stencil with some great colors added over the background pattern once dry.  Then I added more gesso through another stencil, after which I added paint through the same stencil and then outlined the letters with my Sharpie.  I also added some touches of orange on the edges.  I don't love the orange on the edge because it looks more brown.  Almost like rust.  I don't mind the rusty look at times, but I'm not sure how I'm feeling about this one.  It's definitely not done, so still some more work to do.

Tag Magic - A First Layer

Do you ever have a craft supply that maybe you don't use as often, and then you rediscover it's potential?  I've got a lot of supplies, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, except sometimes I end up neglecting a supply.  When I find the supply again, I wonder about getting rid of it because I do have some supplies that I haven't used in a long time and don't plan to use.  That could have happened to the stencil I used on this tag.  Thankfully, I didn't upon seeing the first layer on this tag.

Sometimes I find myself at a loss with color combinations.  Sometimes they work, other times they really don't and I get annoyed at having to start over.  However I was very glad to se this tag with the color combination on it.  It's not a usual combination, but I think it works really well.

Finding Something Forgotten

By now you might be enjoying yourself at a New Year's Eve party.  Maybe you're relaxing in your jammies at home.  Maybe the littles are trying to convince Mom and Dad to let them stay up until midnight (c'mon, it's only one night out of the year...).  Or the bigger ones are up and you're playing game together while you await the ball drop.  However you celebrate New Year's, I hope it's a wonderful, happy, healthy, and prosperous one for you and your whole family.

Have you even set out to clean or organize something and find something forgotten?  I did.  I was trying to clean out my supplies and discovered a huge pile of tags in all different stages of play.  So I thought I'd share one with you tonight.

I know, it looks super busy.  And it is, but if you look close you can identify all the layers.  It started with a bunch of stamping with Archival Black Ink.  Then I used a Sakura Moonlight pen with a stencil, and then a red paint marker to fill in the lines left by the stencil.  And I used a blue paint marker and a Sharpie to make the border.

Is it done?  I don't know.  I'm still deciding.  What would you do?

Summer Fun

Hello there!  Ready for some more crafty fun??  I'm joining the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, which is.... Summer!

I love summer.  The warm weather, the beach, the colors, the fun.  School's out for some, but it's fun for everyone.

My entry for this challenge is a tag.  I absolutely love tags.  I may become a broken record with all the things I love, but it's true.  Similar to ATCs, tiny canvasses that are ripe for experimentation and play!

In looking through my tag stash, I chose this one.  The background is fairly simple, but still lots of fun.  Over top of some purple paint is green paint through a stencil designed by Ronda Palazzari for The Crafter's Workshop called Subway.  A subtle design that can make a big impact.

Combing through my stash, I grabbed a piece of stenciled cardstock and a butterfly die from Kaisercraft.  Butterflies say summer to me for sure, and all the bright colors of flowers blooming in summer.  I grabbed my Cuttlebug and made my sandwich.  For the sandwich, I set the die against the section of paper I chose and put that between two cutting plates.   I then placed a spacer plate underneath, along with some pieces of cardboard to get the right thickness so the die will cut through the paper.  I ran my sandwich through a couple times and out came the butterfly.  Now the actual die has little holes all over the non-sharp side so you can poke out the garbage pieces as well as get the die-cut out of the die.  I used my EK Tools Tweezers to poke out my butterfly.

Next I grabbed my Dylusions stamps, again.  Yes, I may have a problem, haha.  The eyes were already stamped from the Pondering Petunia stamp set, cut out, and colored.  See anything special about the eyes?  Psst...they're two different colors, green and blue.  I love ready made bits and bobs to add to my projects.  Thephrase is from another Dylusions stamp set called Say It How It Is.  I love the attitude inherent in these stamps.

See the different color eyes now?  It was a surprise to me too; I had forgotten I even colored the eyes differently.  The swirly red circle, heart, and "where to next?" die-cut are all from my stash.  The red swirl is a fussy cut from a piece of double-sided patterned paper.

As you can see I also swiped some Artist's Loft Ultramarine Blue on the butterfly for a little added effect.

I stamped the bottom of the tag using a mini star background stamp from an old acrylic Studio Calico stamp set.  Then I attached a piece of netting from an old laundry bag.  I put the netting on top because it reminded me of boating, which I've done a little of and it reminds me of summer and going out on the water.  The heart and word die-cut are from past kits.

I glued everything down with Crazy Glue, and used my black Sharpie (I mentioned it's a favorite of mine, right?) to outline the edge of the tag, the heart, the inside of the "where to next?" die-cut, and lastly filled in the open spaces in the letters from my Dylusions Say It How It Is rubber stamp set.  I really like how it turned out.

Thank you so much for coming along.  Bye for now!
